After about a year of wearing these boots regularly, they've stretched to feel a bit too large on me. Additionally, with 18-months experience piloting a motorcycle, my confidence in riding the bike has increased substantially enough that I no longer feel it's necessary to have the additional lift in the boot. I still believe these are a great deal and a fabulous purchase for anyone starting out or struggling with confidence in riding. However, I'm now looking for something longer-lasting and of higher quality to take me through my next stage of riding.
At 5’5” with a 30” inseam, my first concern when learning to ride a motorcycle was being able to confidently touch the ground on any bike other than a Honda Rebel. It proved to be a legitimate concern, as in my first month of piloting a motorcycle, prior to modifying my 2016 KTM Duke 390, 1) I dropped it once on a hill start, 2) I had a low-side crash in my subdivision while weaving cones and 3) I flipped off high side and tumbled down a hill on a steep U-turn; all because of the fact that I barely had the balls of my feet touching flat ground, and on hills, I was on my tippy toes. Living in a place where I can’t even avoid hill starts getting out of my subdivision, this was less than ideal.
After changing out the suspension, removing unnecessary fairings on each side of the seat and carving out some of the seat foam with a heat gun, I was finally able to rest half my foot on the ground. This instilled a ton of confidence and got me riding with far less fear.
However, it wasn’t until 6 months after I first piloted a bike that I found the Joe Rocket Heartbreaker women’s boots. With phenomenal reviews online, I thought I’d give them a try; especially since they cost less than $125 with tax and shipping. I had been searching for a motorcycle boot that could be worn regularly, but would also help my ride. I hit a home run with the Heartbreaker boot, as they are not only fashionable, but with their 2.5” hidden heel, they made it so my entire foot now touches the ground.
The confidence I gained wearing these boots while riding was enormous. Suddenly, my KTM Duke 390 seemed easy to manage. I felt like I could throw the bike around without fear of falling or losing control. Since I bought them, I haven’t worn any other boot when I’m at the handlebars. In fact, they’ve affected me so much that as long as Joe Rocket keeps making them, I have no intention of ever wearing another boot while motorcycling. Joe Rocket’s Heartbreaker Women’s boots truly changed my life, and if you’re looking for a boost in your ride, I bet they’ll change your life, too.
